FAQs

~ What does Joining Hearts Wedding Services offer?

We offer customized ceremonies that are reflective of the couple's personalities and wishes. Of the hundreds of ceremonies we have had the honour of officiating, no two have been exactly alike. You are guaranteed that your ceremony will truly be your own!

We have many unique ideas on how to make your ceremony extra special and symbolic. They include various types of Symbols of Unity, ideas on how to include children, your family and your guests in the ceremony, plus much more.

Our fee includes creating the ceremony, officiating, processing and submitting paperwork to Vital Statistics on your behalf (including ordering your Provincial Marriage Certificate on your behalf, a value of $25), a beautiful framed keepsake Certificate of Marriage and an elegant keepsake copy of your ceremony script. All you have to do is enjoy your day!

We are also pleased to offer referrals for other services for your special day.

~ What are the legal requirements to be married in Manitoba?

You will need to purchase a Marriage Licence and it must be purchased within 90 days of the wedding date, but no less than 24 hours prior. Marriage Licences can be purchased at most major jewelry stores, wedding stores, or of course directly from Vital Statistics, 254 Portage Avenue. Current fee for the Marriage Licence is $100 (subject to change without notice). You and your fiancé must both be present and provide sufficient ID. For divorced persons, a divorce certificate or decree absolute must be shown. For widowed persons, a death certificate or newspaper clipping must be shown. You must be at least 18 years of age. Two witnesses are required at the ceremony to sign the registration document, usually your Best Man and Maid of Honour. It is not necessary that they be female for the bride and male for the groom. They can also be immediate family such as a parent, sibling, son/daughter.

~ When should I book my officiant?

You should book as soon as you have decided on a date. Many officiants book up to 1 or 2 years in advance.

~ Do you require a deposit?

We do require a $75 non-refundable deposit at the time of booking in order to hold the date with the balance due one week before the ceremony. You may also pay the fee in full at the time of booking if you wish. Please contact us for an information and fee list.

~ What will my officiant wear?

Sheri will wear conservative, business-style attire. When possible, she will also try to co-ordinate with the bridal colours.

~ Do we need a formal rehearsal?

No, most ceremonies do not need a rehearsal as the format of the ceremony is discussed with the couple ahead of time. Just prior to the ceremony Sheri will meet with the Bride and her attendants and the Groom and his attendants to inform them of who will walk in when, where to stand, etc. By chatting with them just before the ceremony there is less chance of forgetting than if there is a rehearsal a night or two before.

Some couples are more comfortable having a formal rehearsal. We are more than happy to oblige! In such case there is only a small additional fee.

~ What time will you arrive for the ceremony?

Sheri will arrive approximately 1/2 hour prior to the time of the ceremony. She will then ensure proper placement of the signing table, discuss the ceremony with the photographer/videographer, person handling the music, as well as the wedding party. Sheri will also make sure everyone is calm and comfortable and having fun!

~ What name do I sign the Marriage Licence with?

You would sign the documents with your name prior to marriage.
